About Us

With over 30 years of combined experience and a passion for sustainable construction, Carrington Barrs and Gabe Genauer left their corporate construction positions to form B&G Builders, Inc. in 2004. Over the last decade, both Barrs and Genauer have demonstrated success in delivering upwards of $100 million of complex commercial, residential and infrastructure construction projects.

Size

B&G has the personalized feel of a small company with the capacity to handle large, sophisticated projects. Principals Carrington Barrs and Gabe Genauer serve as hands-on consultants and project managers with superintendents who become integrated members of the team from day one. B&G employs additional project management and administrative staff along with its own carpenters and laborers, a team of dedicated independent contractors and healthy, loyal relationships with quality subcontractors and suppliers.

Guiding Mission

Best friends and business partners, Carrington and Gabe founded B&G to fulfill a vision of developing and constructing socially, economically and environmentally viable projects.  This vision is based in the principle of being stewards of our community through strong sustainable design and construction practices. We have stayed true to our founding mission of sustainability. As a young and progressive company, we have the ability to direct our work in accordance with our values - matching our company culture with like-minded clients. Sustainable Building Expertise

More and more building industry professionals are looking to align themselves with sustainable practices. There are a number of important factors to successfully navigate sustainability in the field of construction: intimate knowledge and experience in creative design options, building products, relationships with knowledgeable subcontractors and suppliers, the ins and outs of the US Green Building Council's LEED Green Building Rating System. Along with the right products and industry professionals, it is crucial to have an understanding of the costs, constructability and warranty issues surrounding all of this. At B&G, we have proven experience and commitment - this is exemplified by our principals' training, sustainable presentations and lectures, consulting services, and relevant general contracting work experience supported by LEED accreditation.

Community Focus

Committed to supporting those who enrich the neighborhoods of Portland, B&G especially values our focus on community-based and nonprofit work. These projects require us to integrate the opinions and needs of a diverse group of people into a single cohesive product. Groups that we have worked with include Daybreak Cohousing, Multnomah Monthly Meeting of Friends, Zenger Farm and Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette, among others. These ongoing relationships have aided in the growth of all parties involved and we look forward to forging similar relationships with future clients.
